Birth With Spirit
Our training is intensive and purposefully builds towards full autonomy as a birth or postpartum care provider. Unlike other doula certification programs, Birth With Spirit provides ongoing continuity of care for our doulas through advanced trainings, peer reviews, access to experienced doulas for assistance, our extensive lending library,
watch parties, and weekend retreats.
You will have two years from date of registration to complete the requirements to become certified.

Birth With Spirit supports access and equality by never charging certification packet fees, yearly membership fees, or recertification fees.

Your one-time registration fee covers lifetime certification.

CEUs/Recertification Requirements
Birth With Spirit Doulas are driven to constantly improve their knowledge-base and to stay up-to-date. Birth With Spirit requires 18 CEUs every five years after initial certification, and supports this process by offering free and/or reduced fee advanced trainings as well as scholarships for other advanced trainings.

Access to our ever-growing lending library
Our BWS lending library lives at The Well in Kettering, Ohio and is a great resource for all our Doulas. Some books are wonderful to have in your own library for your own reference and for your clients, but it's helpful to be able to read a book you don't want to own without having to purchase it.
Quarterly Peer Review facilitated by a Midwife
Peer Review is a tightly closed, facilitated circle of professional birthworkers and student birthworkers wherein we share a birth story and then discuss as a learning opportunity for all.
Discounted prices for advanced trainings
Birth With Spirit doulas are lifelong learners, and love continuing their learning past the initial certification process. We offer discounted prices to our BWS Doulas to encourage this and enrich our powerful circle of knowledge.
Business building classes and mentoring
BWS offers discounted prices for mentoring and business building classes to assist our Doulas in setting up their businesses as well as managing them and growing them.
Birthworker study nights
We offer study nights at The Well for all birthworkers that include coffee, tea, goodies, books and other study aids. It's more fun to study with friends, both old and new!

We support our community by offering one full certification scholarship per Retreat. This scholarship includes all Certification and Certification Retreat fees, and is available for someone with circumstances that make accessing our doula trainings otherwise impossible. We also offer payment plans and small sliding scales for those with circumstances that would make accessing our trainings difficult. While anyone may apply, to address inequities in our system, special consideration is given to People of Color and LGBTQIA+. To apply, please email birthwithspirit@gmail.com for an application.
